This is a competitive Career Development Detail for 120 days and can be extended, if necessary, in increments of 120 days up to but no more than 1 year. Multiple selections may be made. This position is located in the Activity Based Information Division (ABID) within the Office of Chief Financial Officer.

This position serves as a Financial Analyst.

Responsibilities
TELEWORK: This position is eligible for maximum telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

REMOTE WORK: Remote work will be considered.

Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), U.S. Census Bureau, Economic Development Administration (EDA), Office of the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs (OUS/EA), International Trade Administration (ITA), Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Technical Information Service (NTIS), National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and Office of the Secretary (OS)

The duties and responsibilities for the Financial Analyst Detail Opportunity generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Experience with cost accounting, expense analysis, financial reporting, and the associated systems. Experience with activity-based costing models preferred but not required.
  • Ability to provide input and guidance on complex financial management issues.
  • Ability to work closely with the cost accounting team and business unit customers to understand business processes and apply this understanding to cost accounting and management.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls, identify problem areas, and devise solutions to improve effectiveness.
  • Determine data requirements, conduct cost and financial analyses, and utilize data analytics tools such as Tableau for data visualization and insights.
  • Review, analyze, and validate cost data, coordinate surveys and query systems for data gathering, and identify and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Participate in special projects involving multiple organizations across the agency.

As indicated above, this detail is open to all current non-probationary, GS-12 and GS-13 Department of Commerce employees with at least a FULLY SUCCESSFUL in the most recent performance rating.To be eligible for this position, the candidate must possess:
